Father Builds An Incredible Giant Swing For His Handicapped Daughter
There are many awesome dads out there that are showing great love, concern and affection for their kids on a daily basis, and here you can meet one of them in Ryan Nelson.
Ryan won a 'Fatherly Fund' grant and spend all $1,000 on materials for a new, ingeniously clever swing his handicapped daughter, Mary, can play with.
Mary has got a Type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy and needs her wheelchair and a breathing tube to get around, which means she can't climb into a regular playground swing - and with no wheelchair-friendly playgrounds near by - her father felt obliged to take matters into own hands and started planning for an accessible, giant swing.
- The only thing Mary is limited by is our imagination. Try not to tell your child they can’t do something – they can do it, they just need a little help. The other thing is, you have to be the advocate for your child. You can’t rely on other people to make things happen, Ryan told Fatherly, when being interviewed after he won the fund to help him achieve his goal of building a giant wheelchair-accessible swing for his daughter.
A swing Ryan managed to build in one day, and you can see the progress and Mary's appreciation of his work in the video below.
